Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a chronic disorder which causes unbearable pain in muscles and joints. It’s not a disease; it’s a syndrome which occurs in the collection. This syndrome affects the muscles and soft tissues of the body.

It’s not a disease of joints because it does not cause any inflammation or damage to the joints. However, it causes significant pain in joint as it does not allow a person to properly work.

Symptoms of Fibromyalgia

  • The following are the basic symptoms of fibromyalgia:
  • increased sensitivity to pain
  • fatigue (extreme tiredness) and decrease in energy level
  • muscle stiffness
  • difficulty in sleeping
  • problems with memory and concentration
  • headaches or tensions
  • irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) – a digestive condition that causes stomach pain and bloating
  • numbness or tingling of the extremities in the face, hands

Some people may also have two or more chronic pain conditions which include chronic fatigue, endometriosis, interstitial cystitis and vulvodynia. Some may also have a feeling of swelling, but not actual swelling. The parts of the body where this pain occurs are the upper part of the shoulders, back of the head, knees, hips and other elbows.

Diagnosis and Treatment of Fibromyalgia

According to a research people with fibromyalgia go to many doctors due to pain and fatigue. And there is currently no lab where its test can be properly taken, because standard lab fails to reveal the reasonfor pain. During the diagnosis, the doctor goes through many parts of the body where the patient has had any pain in the past days. This pain last for at least 3 months.

Though there’s no treatment for fibromyalgia as there are treatments to help relieve its symptoms and make conditions better for living. And most of the doctors are also not with fibromyalgia and its treatment, so find a doctor who is familiar with this and it’s important too. Doctors who specialize in arthritis can only treat fibromyalgia.

The only three medications which are approved for the treatment of fibromyalgia are duloxetine, milnacipran and pregabalin. Duloxetine is used to treat depression. Milnacipran is also a drug to treat depression, whereas pregabalin is a drug that is used to treat neuropathic pain.

Other than medication second method is talking therapies such as counselling. And then another, change your lifestyle by some exercises and relaxation techniques. As daily exercise has helped people getting benefits and it also reduces pain.

Causes of Fibromyalgia

There is no exact reason which causes fibromyalgia. But it’s thought to be because of improper level of some chemicals in the brain and then it changes the response of the nervous system as messages carried around the body are being disturbed. In some cases, people are more likely to get this because of inherited genes from their parents.

In some cases, the condition is caused due to any physical or emotional event such as while giving birth or having an operation. Some events also include breakdown of a relationship or the death of a loved one. Some relate it to injuries again and again. Many researchers are examining other causes which include how the central nervous system processes brain.
