Islamabad: The U.S. Secretary of State Mr. Mike Pompeo Has Arrived In Pakistan. It Is Going To Be The First Top-Level Meeting Between Him And The New Pakistani Government In The Capital City.
During the visit of Pompeo, he also has the company of the General Joseph Dunford, U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman. In this meeting, he is likely to emphasize on the counterterrorism focus in engagements with the South-Asian ally.
It is expected that the US delegation led by Pompeo will be holding formal negotiations with Shah Mehmood Quershi who is the new Foreign Minister of Pakistan. The delegation is expected to have a separate meeting during their one-day visit with the new Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan.
“The meeting with the U.S. Secretary of State is an opportunity for both sides for exchanging views and attempting to improve the trained ties”, Says Shah Mehmood Qureshi.
The relation between the two countries has declined to the lowest level after Trump announced his policy about South Asia. In his South Asia policy, Donald Trump accused Pakistan for not fully-supporting the US-backed war in Afghanistan against the Taliban.
However, Pakistan constantly denies these allegations as Pakistanis have made matchless sacrifices in eliminating terrorism to bring peace and stability in the entire region.
Last week, the Pentagon has also decided to stop the military aid of $300 million to Pakistan, quoting that the country is not cooperating with the South Asia policy of the Trump.
Meanwhile, Shah Mehmood Qureshi swiftly sacked the allegations by saying that this money was the compensation for the expenses instead of US aid that were incurred by the Pakistan from their own resources to fight the regional terrorism with the support of the counterterrorism efforts by Washington.
