Karachi – The former captain of Pakistan, Shahid Afridi, is not in the filed, but he is still very much concerned about Pakistan Cricket’s future as he wants that PCB should go back to basics and must work at grassroots level.

Shahid Afridi, who stepped down from his position of national T20 captain after the national team’s bad show last month in the World T20, said that he was much worried that he didn’t find the real strong talent in the domestic structure of Pakistan.

“What I am seeing right now is that we do not have enough real talent in the background. I am unable to highlight any new young player as a bright talent with certainty. What I think is that the cricket board needs to pay special attention to the school cricket and it must work at the grassroots level,” Afridi said while the Geo Super, Pakistan’s premier sports channel.

Shahid Afridi was not included in the training camp set for the England’s tour by the selection committee, but he said, “I already had informed the PCB that he is not available for the upcoming tour to England”.

“Right now, I am just focusing on the T20 cricket and I already had informed the Pakistan Cricket Board about my commitment in the English county cricket, ongoing summer. I will work really hard on my fitness and form to make a comeback to the Pakistan national team,” says Afridi.

Inzamam-ul-Haq, the Chief selector of Pakistan cricket also made it very clear in media conference that Shahid Afridi was not dropped from the national team and we will definitely consider him for the future T20 fixtures, but right now the selectors are focusing on the young talent.

Pakistan team is going to play the single T20 in their England tour, and then they will play a two match T20 series against the current T20 World Champions West Indies, this October, in UAE.

Shahid Afridi also said that he doesn’t have any idea why Umar Akmal and Ahmed Shehzad were dropped from the national team.

“I can’t say anything, why the selection committee has dropped the two, but if the reason is discipline, then the two players obviously need to pay attention to it and they must work hard on their cricket. I also have the same opinion that there must not be any compromise on the discipline and it is the right time to give a chance to the young players,” Afridi added.

He said that he will always support any step taken by the selectors in order to improve the things in the Pakistan cricket.
